The awarding of the Best tourism villages took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan which was received directly by the village head of Penglipuran Village I Wayan Budiarta on October 19, 2023.
It has been a long journey until Penglipuran Tourism Village was able to win an award as one of the best tourism villages by UNWTO 2023.
I Wayan Budiarta as the manager of Penglipuran Tourism Village accompanied by Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy received the charter directly from the UNWTO Secretary General.
Best tourism village from UNWTO is an extraordinary international award in the development of Penglipuran Tourism Village. This award is not only for Penglipuran, but for Indonesian tourism in general. This achievement will also further elevate Penglipuran Tourism Village at the international level. In addition, this award is a motivation for us, the Penglipuran community, to continue to maintain and preserve traditions and culture so that tourism in Penglipuran tourism village can be sustainable,” said I Wayan Budiarta.
“Kemenparekraf appreciates all stakeholders of Penglipuran Tourism Village. This award will increase the confidence of Penglipuran Tourism Village which received an international award and can be an example for other tourist villages to participate in world-level selection to advance the tourism sector and creative economy in Indonesia,” said Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani.
